![]() I used to go out of my way to play Commander/EDH, but recently, the game has felt like a chore to play, and even keep up with. I'm trying to build my own take on it now, but I'm having mixed results piloting it.Hey Magic players! I’ve had this column brewing for a while now. I imagine it just rolls right over mono green though, and it's got all the pieces to deal with izzet dragons. I've been switching back and forth between orzhov clerics and dimir control, and If I bump into it while playing clerics, I'm virtually guaranteed to lose- too much of my deck is in range of culling ritual or shadow verdict.ĭimir is less one sided. It's not exactly big brain- it just a giant pile of premium removal, some sweepers and some big threats that duck the sweepers, ideally wiping the opponent. I bumped into it in diamond a fair bit, and it feels like I'm seeing it more and more in mythic. Pretty sure it's running heavy on man lands, with 6-8 of them, but I could be wrong, and they usually have big persistent threats at the end of their curve (skeletal swarming, ebondeath, Tergrids lantern) With some ramp in front (Shambling Ghast, Jaspera Sentinel, etc.) I've also seen some culling ritual/blood on the snow. Not sure if they are actually running 4 of everything, but it sure as hell feels like it when you play against it- they always seem to have more removal waiting in the wings. Might be more of a 'Rising off meta' than a true meta deck, the base looks to me like: There is a pestless golgari control that seems to be running around. If someone plays all the formats the amount of decks you will play against will feel great! It is definitely nice having different formats to play, I remember the days of MTGA where there was just standard and was just Esper/Mono Red everywhere along with Field of the Dead shortly after. ![]() I have won so many games against decks with a giant board where I just play Gold Span Dragon then Epiphany+Epiphany+Epiphany = Win. I will say Goldspan Dragon + Epiphany seems really strong. You can definitely make more interesting decks in other formats. On the reverse end it does seem like if you use a non top tier deck you can win easier. ![]() In general I would say it is my least favorite format for deck brewing because of the low quantity of cards. I personally have enjoyed the event ques the most though. So for me it kind of feels like every other ranked que where you mostly play against the same top tier decks. Oddly I even see these Standard 2022 decks in the Standard events. Kind of like standard I see Ultimatum > Mono Red > Angels > Cycling > Other. The decks I see the most by far are Mono Green > Izzet Dragons > Dimir Control > Mono White > Other For me events have had more variety that ranked for me even in low platinum. I play it super casual though and play more standard still for events. Personally I haven't found it much different than other ques. With all the trample in this deck, you can force blocks consistently and then surprise the enemy on turn 4 or 5 with an 8/7. Purple Worm: A 7 cost with ward that can be cast for 5 mana as long as any creature died that turn. Pairs well with ranger class and snakeskin. Decimates sagas, planeswalkers, and +1+1 counter decks (like aggro green). 4 mana 4/4 with reach that can block Goldspan and also gives trample to any of your attacking creatures with equal power/toughness which can decimate token decks.īattle Mammoth: A 6/5 5 cost with trample which can be foretold for 4 mana and draws a card whenever one of your permanents is targeted by a spell or ability (which is a lot). ![]() Master Symmetrist: I never see it and I absolutely love it. ![]()
